Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is this the same as a Fuel Cell?

A: No. A fuel cell takes hydrogen from a high pressure storage tank, combines it with oxygen from the air to produce electricity which is used to power an electric motor. Water is a byproduct of this process. A HydroSys unit takes water, excites it with electricity to produce hydrogen and oxygen gases that are used to assist the combustion of diesel in a conventional internal combustion engine. The two processes are actually opposites of each other.

Q. Will it void my warranty?

A: No. Our Systems WILL NOT void your warranty. HydroSys does not alter your vehicle's engine or computer system. If fact, if it can be proven that hydrogen damaged your engine, we will repair or replace your engine!

Q. Can it damage my engine?

A: No. HydroSys is a hydrogen assist unit. Only a small amount of hydrogen gas is introduced into the engine's air intake system to enhances the combustion of the diesel. For example, for a 12 liter diesel engine we would add three liters per minute of HHO to the air intake. Of that three liters of HHO, only two liters are hydrogen, the other liter being oxygen. Assuming this 12 liter engine is a typical four cycle engine, then for every four revolutions it will pull in 12 liters of air. So, if the vehicle is cruising down the road at 2,000 RPM, it is going to be consuming 6,000 liters of air per minute, of which only two liters would be hydrogen from the HydroSys.

The additional power and fuel economy does not come from the burning of the hydrogen itself, but rather come from the additional diesel that burns (that normally would pass unignited into the atmosphere) because it is ignited by the burning hydrogen.

Q: There isn't much space in my engine compartment. Where will they install the HydroSys unit?

A: Because of its modular design, the various component can be installed almost anywhere on the vehicle, and most of the components are small. SeaLand authorized dealers are trained in dealing with challenging installs.

Q: Will HydroSys work in freezing temperatures?

A: Yes, providing the concentration of electrolyte is kept near it maximum level as determined by a specific gravity test.

Q: How will HydroSys affect my engine's performance?

A: You will notice a big difference. The hydrogen changes the combustion cycle into a more even or "round" cycle. This happens immediately upon installation and from this moment on your engine works in a new way. You will notice that your engine runs smoother and quieter. Your engine will also develop more horsepower and torque, making your vehicle accelerate faster and use less fuel at cruise. Also, HydroSys reduces carbon deposits caused by unburned fuel. Cleaner pistons and valves improve general engine operation, and cleaner oil increases engine life!

Q: How does HydroSys protect the environment?

A: The hydrogen gas added to the engine's air intake helps fuel burn both more completely and more effectively. Fewer unburned petroleum contaminants are released into to atmosphere, and combustion emissions are greatly reduced as well.

Q: Will HydroSys work with a gasoline engine?

A: In theory, hydrogen assist will work equally well on a gasoline engine as it does on a diesel engine. However, due to the complex computerized emissions controls on modern gasoline powered automobiles, and the EPA regulations about "tampering" with these devices, SeaLand Environmental has chosen to only market systems for diesel engines at this time.
